What can be done? Maybe something, Maybe nothing.

I choose this topic because it has impacted my family’s life and I want to understand just how bad or corrupt society is when it comes to teens getting pregnant. Before I go and start researching my topic I need some questions to follow through with. These questions will help me and others see what should be done, what has been done, and to get an overall better perceptive on this topic. These are the following questions.

Which television shows impact teen pregnancy the most?
Should government band all television shows that glamorize teen pregnancy?
Why do teenagers choose role models who have a negative impact on their decisions?
How will parents or family influence a teenager to make the decisions to get pregnant?
How does the age of the parents influence their son or daughters perspective on having a child at a young age?
What if there is a positive incentive for those who are not teen moms.

What was she thinking? Society.

Why is it so normal or considered okay for teens to get pregnant at such a young age? Oh wait, its not. My cousin had a baby at 14 years old. She thought it was okay for her to do it because she thought she was ready to be an adult, and was ready for a “family.” To me this sounds absolute crazy! When she told me this I was astonished. How in the world could my cousin who was only 13 think it was okay to get pregnant! She is still a baby her self! Then she told me something that has changed my mind on society to this day. She said “The girls on Teen Mom and Sixteen and pregnant can do it, so can I.” I literally had no words. Has society really glamorized this subject so much that girls are actually thinking it is okay to do this? Well the answer is yes. Society doesn’t just accept this they glamorize it! Girls have to try out for this; these are shows that inspire girls to have sex. I chose this topic because it has impacted my life because the child that my cousin had now lives with my aunt. My aunt has 2 kids of her own and is a single parent so now she has 3 kids who she takes care of. My baby cousin one time asked me something that broke my heart; he asked me “why did mommy not love me? Why do I live with Nana?” I did not know what to say to him, and I still don’t but I am going to try to bring awareness to this subject.
